Target shipping options by name, by cost (over or under a threshold), or grab all paid or all free options at once. Then hide them, rename them, or move them into the order you want.
Payment rules
Match payment methods by name (exact or contains), then hide, rename, or reorder them. Put your preferred method first, or remove ones that don't fit the order.

A lot of checkout confusion comes from options that shouldn't be there. Removing them means fewer mischosen shipping methods and fewer support tickets.Hide
Remove options that don't apply, such as Cash on Delivery on high-value orders, express shipping for oversized carts, local pickup for faraway customers.
Rename
Turn carrier jargon into words shoppers understand. "DHL_EXPRESS_12:00" can just say "Next-day delivery before noon."
Move
Put the option you want chosen first at the top of the list, where shoppers see it first.

Does this work with Shopify Checkout?
Yes. Checkout rules run on Shopify's native payment and delivery customization APIs (Shopify Functions), so they work inside Shopify Checkout itself without checkout.liquid, scripts, or theme edits.
What can a rule change?
Three actions: hide an option, rename it, or move it to a specific position in the list. Both shipping options and payment methods support all three.
Can I target specific shipping rates?
Yes. You can target them by name (contains or exact), by cost (over or under a threshold you set), or all paid / all free options at once.
Can different customers see different checkouts?
Yes. Conditions include customer tags, logged-in status, countries, and zip codes, so wholesale, VIP, and local customers can each get a checkout that fits.
Will rules slow down my checkout?
No. Rules run as Shopify Functions, which Shopify executes natively during checkout. It is the same mechanism Shopify Plus scripts migrated to.
